Anchors to Something, and to Something Else

Mixed media paintings and collage on plywood panels. Featuring gouche, acrylic, chalk pastel and polaroid prints. Created during art residency at Vanha Paukku Cultural Center, Finland , 2019. 5" x 7".

Embrioderies on linen curtain. 8ft x 5ft.

Anchors to Something, and to Something Else explores the fragmentary, metaphysical state of consciousness- and investigates the role memory plays in constructing and deconstructing the self. Memory cannot exist without the other- everything connected to it seeks to prove it exists in itself. Place, object and moment - these are all anchored in the self; archived internally and digitally; preserved and utilised physically. We are surrounded by physical, technological and emotional anchors to past, to people, and to present. I make sense of myself, my relationships and my life by tapping into this matrix of anchors. I actively create them, conceal them, save them, and use them when needed.  Featured in this project are mixed media plywood panels and embrioderies.
